Is choosing outfits for your family photo session stressing you out? No worries; we're here to help! Do you have outfits picked that you love already? Then you're set; no need to read on!
SHOULD WE AVOID CERTAIN COLORS?
If you've had a photographer tell you not to wear a certain color or pattern in the past, throw that out the window. We believe that you should wear what makes you feel the best. There is no such thing as "colors to avoid". We will work our lighting around you.
SHOULD WE MATCH?
We recommend that your family coordinate with each other, but not match exactly. What's that mean? Well, the days of matching khaki pants and white polos have passed, but that's not to say your clothes shouldn't look like they go together if you were to lay them all out on the bed. Find colors that look good together, and then add in some overlap from one outfit to the next. Maybe you have a bit of the same color in each outfit - a belt, scarf, stripes within plaid, etc.
You can choose colors with similar vibrancy. Mostly bright, or mostly muted, mostly sunny and warm (yellows, creams, oranges, tans, browns), or mostly cool (blues, greys, whites, blacks). Feel free to try mixing colors, stepping back, and seeing how they go together.
SHOULD WE BE FANCY OR CASUAL?
Either! But we do suggest you look a similar level of fancy or casual as each other --- one in a prom dress while another is in ripped sweatpants might not look quite right. But then again, if you're going for capturing your kids' unique personalities, even that might be perfect!
You might also want to think about the setting. If your photos will be on the beach, you might want to coordinate clothes that would be appropriate for sun and sand. Fall photos with a collage of gold, yellow, and orange leaves in the background might lend well to clothes suited for cool weather and bundling up. If you'll be standing near your Christmas decor, you might want to coordinate the colors of the clothes with the room. If you're doing something special, like capturing activities around your farm or the process of building a house, you might want your clothes to look like they would typically look in this setting. Ultimately, it's completely up to you!
Choose clothes that make you feel like the best version of YOU, and you will look perfect! We are happy to help you ahead of time in a consultation, or help with any questions before your session.
